Series <Inner Brain>, 2003-2024
The <Inner Brain> series of works is created by projecting images using a video projector in the exhibition space. The images are either screened in real time using a video camera inside the exhibition space or are screened by filming everyday scenes with a rotating camera. The places and spaces captured by the camera are projected onto the exhibition space through a video projector that moves similarly to the movement of the camera, causing the audience to experience a sensory confusion experienced by the mechanical gaze of the camera.
The image experienced through the video projector symbolizes an encounter with an unfamiliar other, such as a living room, a private space of another person, or a different light approaching, and causes the audience to experience an instability in their vision that is sensed as light.
<Inner Brain> 시리즈 작품은 전시공간에 비디오프로젝터를 이용해 영상을 투사하는 방식으로 이루어진다. 영상은 전시공간 내부에서 비디오카메라를 이용해 촬영한 영상을 실시간으로 상영하거나 일상의 모습을 회전하는 카메라로 촬영해 상영하기도 한다. 카메라에 잡힌 장소와 공간은 카메라의 움직임과 유사하게 움직이는 비디오프로젝터를 통해 전시공간에 투사되며 관객들에게 카메라의 기계적인 시선이 경험하는 감각적 혼돈을 불러일으킨다.
비디오프로젝터를 통해 경험하는 영상이미지는 타인의 사적인 공간인 거실, 마주하며 다가오는 다른 빛과 같이 낯선 타자와의 조우를 상징하며 관객들에게 빛으로 감각되는 시각의 불안정을 초래한다.
5 living room (2024)

Using a rotating camera device, the artist filmed the living rooms of his acquaintances in the apartment complex where he lived. The video showing the four living rooms repeatedly is projected onto the wall of the exhibition hall through a projector installed on a rotating device. The living room, which is another person's private space, engraves traces of personal taste in the apartment, a replicated architectural space. In addition, the video captured through the rotation technique rotates as if brushing across the entire exhibition hall, which is a public space, to project a private image.
Viewers experience the overlapping layers of the living room, which is a personal space, and the exhibition hall, which is a space for showing at the same time. This is not simply a visualization of light, but a reflection on the mixture of seeing and what is seen, and between subject and object.
작가가 거주했던 아파트 단지에 사는 5명의 지인의 집 거실에 회전하는 카메라 장치를 이용해 비디오를 찍는다. 이렇게 찍혀진 4개의 거실 공간이 반복적으로 보여지는 영상은 같은 회전장치에 설치된 비디오프로젝터를 통해 전시장 벽면에 투사된어 서서히 회전한다. 타인들의 내밀한 일상공간인 거실은 아파트의 복제된 건축공간에 사적인 취향의 흔적이 새겨져 있다. 그리고 회전하는 비디오카메라를 통해 찍혀 전시장 전체를 회전하며 투사하는 프로젝션을 통해 관객이 머무는 공적인 전시공간의 벽을 스치듯 움직이며 사적인 이미지를 투사한다.

Gaze 응시 (2024)

Two sets of projectors move facing each other along a long rail. The two projectors project images taken from each installed video camera toward the projector and camera on the opposite side. When two projectors get close to a certain distance, the projection light instantly reacts and flashes as if exploding. The relationship created by light through multiple devices metaphorically shows the network of relationships between you and others (others, society, nation, history).
긴 레일을 따라 두대의 프로젝터가 마주보며 이동한다. 두대의 프로젝터는 함께 설치된 비디오 카메라에서 찍는 영상을 반대편에서 다가오는 또 다른 비디오 프로젝터와 카메라를 향해 투사한다. 두대의 프로젝터가 어느 거리까지 가까워지면 프로젝션 빛은 순간적으로 폭발하듯이 반응하며 번쩍거린다. 작품 <응시>를 구성하는 두 대의 카메라와 프로젝터의 빛이 만들어내는 관계성은 나와 타자(타인, 사회, 국가, 역사)가 만드는 관계성의 모습을 은유적으로 보여준다.

Aluminum, a wireless video camera, 3 motors, a video projector
Four aluminum cubes turn on three axes. A wireless video camera on the outset cube moves as if it's in the space and take pictures of different parts of the model. This model is located in the gallery Brain factory where people walking on the road can see inside through a glass wall. It's different from previous works, which was located inside buildings; thus, it provides the possibility of new perception to visitors.
알루미늄으로 만들어진 네 개의 육면체 구조물들은 각각의 구조물에 설치된 모터 장치에 의해 축을 중심으로 회전한다. 세 축이 중심이 된 회전운동으로, 가장 끝 구조물에 설치된 무선 비디오 카메라는 마치 무중력 공간 속의 우주인의 시선처럼 움직이며 공간의 곳곳을 찍어낸다. 이 카메라 장치가 설치된 공간은 차량이 다니는 대로변에 위치해 있고, 유리벽을 통해 내부가 훤히 들여다 보이는 갤러리 Brainfactory 이다. 소형 비디오 카메라들이 작은 건축 모델내부에 설치되어 있었던 다른 작업들과 달리 실재 전시공간에 설치된 카메라를 통해, 전시 공간에 들어온 관객들에게 새로운 공간지각의 가능성을 제공한다.
