《Light on Move》

Cultural Creation is an exhibition that examines similar yet different perspectives and expressions of contemporary artists by matching Asian artists with artists from Jeolla-do, including Gwangju, focusing on the keywords 'light, history, and space', from June to September 2019. It was held at Won Complex 6. Jeong Jeong-ju participated as a local artist, and Rangga Purbaya from Ruang MES 56 in Indonesia, who participated in the 2018 ACC Creative Space Network Residency, participated as an Asian artist. Just as ‘Light on the Move’ refers to moving light, the exhibition focuses on how the two artists directly move light or use projection methods such as spotlights to connect and remind us of historical space and memory in the democratization process of modern and contemporary history. Jeong Jeong-ju's <City of Gaze - Jeonil Building, Gwangju> uses projection methods such as camera lenses and spotlights to show the gaze of citizens who took refuge in Jeonil Building, a historical symbol of the May 18 Democratization Movement.

In this exhibition, as part of the <City of Gaze - Gwangju> series, new works featuring the Jeonil Building, a symbolic building of the May 18 Gwangju Democratization Movement produced in 2018, the (former) Armed Forces Gwangju Hospital, and the (former) Jeonnam Provincial Office are presented. , Through the architectural models of historical buildings, the camera's gaze, and the movement of light across space, the city of Gwangju is portrayed as paralyzed by the tragedy of modern and contemporary history, and the psychological landscape experienced therein. In the work, the shadows created by the rotating light and the camera's gaze combine to create an uneasy psychological landscape.

‘빛, 역사, 공간’ 이라는 키워드를 중심으로 광주를 포함한 전라도 지역 작가와 아시아 작가를 매칭하여 동시대를 살아가는 예술가들의 유사하면서도 다른 관점과 표현을 살펴보는 전시로 2019년 6월부터 9월까지 문화창조원 복합6관에서 진행하였습니다. 지역작가로는 정정주, 아시아 작가로는 2018 ACC 창작공간네트워크 레지던시에 참여한 인도네시아 루앙 메스 56(Ruang MES 56)의 랑카 뿌르바야(Rangga Purbaya)가 참여하였습니다. ‘라이트 온 더 무브’가 움직이는 빛을 의미하듯이 전시는 두 작가가 빛을 직접 움직이거나 스포트라이트와 같은 프로젝션 방식을 사용하여 근현대사의 민주화 과정 속 역사적 공간과 기억을 연결시키고 상기시키는 점에 주목하였습니다. 정정주 <응시의 도시-전일빌딩, 광주>는 5.18 민주화운동의 역사적 상징인 전일빌딩에서 몸을 피했던 시민들의 시선을 카메라 렌즈와 스포트라이트 같은 프로젝션 방식을 사용해 보여줍니다.

이번 전시에서는 <응시의 도시-광주> 시리즈의 일환으로 2018년에 제작한 5·18 광주민주화운동의 상징적 건축물인 전일빌딩을 비롯하여 (구)국군광주병원, (구)전남도청을 다룬 신작을 선보이고, 역사적 건물의 건축 모형과 카메라의 시선, 공간을 훑어가는 빛의 움직임을 통해 광주라는 도시가 근현대사의 비극 속에서 마비되었던 상황과 그 속에서 겪었던 심리적 풍경을 그려내고 있습니다. 작품 속에서 회전하는 빛이 만들어내는 그림자와 카메라의 시선이 결합되면서 불안한 심리적 풍경을 만들어냅니다.
