《Light in the Air》

Jang Design Art presents the solo exhibition "light in the air" by artist Jeongju Jeong, running from May 3rd (Tue) to May 28th (Sat). Jeongju explores the abstract combination of architectural space and projected light, rooted in experiences during studies in Germany. His work delves into the interplay of light within architectural spaces, filling them with light or replicating moving light within architectural models. The artist uses LED light to express the visualization of light, addressing psychological aspects and communication possibilities alongside the fear of others.

The new "Facade2022" series introduces diverse modules and abstract combinations of shapes and colors. Unlike previous works projecting light inside and outside architectural spaces, this exhibition emphasizes the artist's growing interest in the 'frontality' of the works through various structures and facets of cubic forms. The new series "Facade2022-c" evokes monochromatic abstract paintings, employing a cubist approach to layer different perspectives and direct all facets towards the viewer. The overlapping perspectives within architectural structures are portrayed through video, incorporating colors from the blue-green and reddish-brown spectra.

The frame monitor series introduces color into the artwork, shifting from traditional sculptural methods to digital modeling. Observing the relationship between light and color, the artist captures the changing light within the work, creating visualizations with various hues. Jeongju's exploration of the transformation of moving light and its conversion into structure results in the formation of new spatial-temporal play and layers of perspective. Through his works, the artist invites viewers to experience a departure from biases and preconceptions about object perception, encouraging an exchange of perspectives and overlapping perceptions of space and gaze at the Jang Design Art exhibition.

장디자인아트는 5월 3일(화)부터 5월 28일(토)까지 정정주 작가의 개인전 《light in the air》를 개최한다. 정정주는 건축적 공간과 그 위에 투사된 빛의 추상적 조합에 대한 작업을 진행해 왔다. 정정주 작가의 작업세계를 관통하는 두가지 핵심테마는 건축공간과 빛이다. 이런 작업의 시작은 독일 유학시절에서 시작되었다. 작은 기숙사 방의 창문을 통해 들어오는 빛을 타자적 존재로 인식하고, 빛을 관찰하면서 변화하는 빛을 기록하고 구조화시키는 시도를 계속하였다. 작가는 작품 속 건축공간의 안쪽을 사람의 심리 혹은 내면에, 바깥쪽을 나를 접하는 타인 혹은 사회나 권력, 신과 같이 나를 둘러싼 세계라 여기며, 건축공간의 내부를 빛으로 채우거나 건축모형 안에서 이동하는 빛을 재현하기도 하였다. 추상화된 건축적 몸체를 통과하며 빛을 발하는 LED 빛을 통해 작가는 빛의 시각화와 타인에 대한 심리적 두려움과 함께 소통의 가능성을 열어가는 인간의 현실적 노력을 표현하였다.

이번 전시에서 새롭게 선보이는 각기 다른 형태의 모듈과 색면의 추상적 조합으로 이루어진 신작 <Facade2022> 시리즈를 선보인다. 예전 작품에서 보여주는 건축공간의 안과 밖으로 투사된 빛의 조합을 ‘복합적 시점’으로 보여주었다면 이번 전시 작품에서는 건축공간의 안과 밖을 다양한 구조와 색면들을 지닌 입방체들의 정면 작업으로 작가가 작품의 ‘정면성’에 대한 관심이 커져가고 있다는 점을 보여준다. 또한 정정주 작가의 신작 <Facade2022-c> 시리즈는 단색 추상회화의 평면성을 연상시킨다. 특히 <Facade2022-c> 시리즈는 각기 다른 시각으로 구체적이고 복합적인 ‘큐비즘’에서의 다양한 시선들을 차용하여 이루어진 면들을 중첩시키고 모든 면들을 정면을 향하게 했다. 건축물의 내부에서 외부를, 외부에서 내부를 바라보는 시선이 중첩된 면들은 영상작품을 통해 표현되어 온 청녹계열과 적황계열의 빛의 색들을 적용했다.

이번 전시작인 액자 모니터 시리즈는 색채를 작품속에 들여왔다. 기존의 입체조형방식에서 디지털조형 방식으로 모델링하면서 작가는 빛과 색의 관계를 유심히 관찰하게 된다. 작품 속안에서 외부에서 내부로 진입하면서 움직이는 빛은 다양한 색조와 비례로 시각화 되면서 존재를 확인하게 된다. 작가는 빛을 관찰하면서 변화하는 빛을 기록하고 구조화 시키는 시도를 계속함으로써 움직이는 빛과 그 빛을 구조로 바꾸는 과정에서 이동의 잔상이 만드는 형태의 변화에 관심을 갖게 됐다. 또한 이를 통한 시점의 이동으로 생기는 시점의 층을 표현함으로써 새로운 시공간적 유희와 장을 형성한다. 이러한 정정주 작품을 통해서 사물의 시각에 대한 편견과 고정관념에서 벗어나는 경험을 통해 상호 교환되는 시선과 관람객의 중첩된 지각을 통해 공간과 시선에 대한 경험을 장디자인 아트 전시에서 느껴 보길 바란다.
