'Shining Beyond Existence' is an exhibition that interprets the core Buddhist philosophical concept of ‘no-self’ through contemporary art, presenting a journey to let go of attachment to a fixed self and intuitively experience the essence of existence.

The exhibition guides viewers toward their inner light through three sections. ‘Traces of Existence’ explores the footprints and fragments of memory left behind in the flow of time. Works visualizing personal memories blend with pieces capturing the changing essence of existence through the process of folding and unfolding hanji paper, focusing attention on the time and sensations flowing within rather than on form. Paintings addressing nature's cycles and life's essence, alongside works capturing light's afterimages inspired by Jeongamsa Temple, connect memory and traces to life within serene, meditative spaces.

‘Reflecting’ unfolds as a space to pause amidst busy routines and contemplate time passed. Works capturing the subtle moments revealed when we let go of attachment and gaze upon the present offer a paradoxical experience: feeling fullness within emptiness. Paintings that excavate energy beyond the image, drawings that capture the sensation between possession and emptiness, works exploring the gap between reality and art, and pieces depicting nature disappearing within the city prompt viewers to question life's true meaning.

In ‘Path of the Mind’, a profound journey beyond outward appearance begins, heading inward. Realizing that seemingly separate things are actually connected, and accepting the changing essence of life, one experiences a time of quiet meditation. Works capturing the resonance between mind and body through photography, and pieces exploring the sublimity of light and space, show the process of unifying depth and surface. Works addressing the paradoxes of truth-seeking and performances reflecting on relational attitudes ultimately guide the viewer into a ‘world of selflessness’.

‘존재를 넘어 빛나다’는 불교 철학의 핵심 개념인 ‘무아(無我)’를 현대미술로 풀어낸 전시로, 고정된 자아의 집착을 내려놓고 존재의 본질을 직관적 감각으로 체험하는 여정을 제시한다.

​

전시는 세 개의 섹션으로 구성되어 관람자를 내면의 빛으로 안내한다. '존재의 흔적'에서는 시간의 흐름 속에서 남긴 발자취와 기억의 파편들을 탐구한다. 개인의 기억을 시각화한 작품들과 한지를 접고 펼치는 과정을 통해 변화하는 존재의 본질을 담은 작품들이 어우러져, 형태보다는 그 안에 흐르는 시간과 감각에 집중하게 한다. 자연의 순환과 생명의 본질을 다룬 회화와 정암사에서 영감을 받은 빛의 잔상을 포착한 작업들이 고요한 명상 같은 여백 속에서 기억과 흔적을 삶과 연결시킨다.

'돌아보다'에서는 바쁜 일상에서 잠시 멈춰 지나온 시간을 성찰하는 공간이 펼쳐진다. 집착을 내려놓고 현재를 바라볼 때 드러나는 미묘한 순간들을 담은 작품들이 비움 속에서 충만함을 느끼는 역설적 경험을 선사한다. 이미지 너머의 에너지를 발굴하는 회화와 소유와 비움 사이의 감각을 포착한 드로잉, 현실과 예술의 간극을 탐구하는 작업과 도시 속 사라지는 자연을 담은 작품들이 관람자로 하여금 삶의 진정한 의미를 되묻게 한다.

'마음의 길'에서는 외형을 넘어 내면으로 향하는 깊은 여정이 시작된다. 분리되어 보였던 것들이 실은 연결되어 있음을 깨닫고, 변화하는 삶의 본질을 받아들이는 과정에서 고요한 명상의 시간을 경험한다. 사진을 통해 마음과 몸의 감응을 담은 작업과 빛과 공간의 숭고함을 탐구한 작품들이 심층과 표층이 합일되는 과정을 보여준다. 진리 탐구의 모순을 다룬 작업과 관계의 자세를 성찰하는 퍼포먼스가 마침내 관람자를 '무아의 세계'로 안내한다.

Jeongju Jeong work is rooted in the quiet sublimity felt at the moment when light meets architectural space- a sensation that holds both awe and unease. Solid structure and the light that flows within them evoke the relationship between body and soul.

​

The work tower2020 reinprets, in sculptural form, the changing shapes of light as they leave behind shadows and colors. In the artist's gaze, the interplay between architecture and light expands into reflections on the relationships between self and other, society, God, and history. His video works, presented on LED monitors or electric displays, capture gestures of daily life in response to external stimuli, as well as repeated zoom-ins and zoom-outs on City windows and dark crevices--scenes that reveal both the unease and the uniqueness embedded within ordinary landscape. The sublimity perceived through the mediation of light and space renders the familiar world unfamiliar.

 

정정주의 작업은 빛과 건축공간이 만나는 순간 느껴지는 고요한 숭고감, 즉 경외와 불안의 감각을 근원으로 삼는다. 견고한 공간과 그 안을 흐르는 빛은 신체와 영혼의 관계를 떠올리게 한다.

<tower2020>은 그림자와 색을 남기며 변화하는 빛의 형상을 조형적으로 변주한 작업으로, 작가의 시선 속에서 이러한 건축공간과 빛의 관계성은 개인과 타인, 사회, 신, 역사 등의 관계에 대한 사유로 확장된다. 한편 LED 모니터나 전광판으로 상영되는 영상 작업은 외부 자극에 반응하는 일상의 몸짓, 도시의 창과 어두운 틈을 반복적으로 확대.축소하는 장면 등, 평범한 풍경 속에 스민 불안과 특별함을 보여준다. 빛과 공간을 매개로 감지되는 숭고함은 익숙한 세계를 낯설게 만든다.
