​

Soswaewon is a beautiful traditional garden built in the mid Joseon Dynasty. Two pavillion in a landscape with a valley and a waterfall act as eye in an idealized world according to the tradition of oriental painting. The landscape containing oriental ideals was reproduced in my work as a ceramic made with celadon technique, a symbol of oriental beauty. The video camera installed in the landscape made of ceramics captures the landscape and shows it to the audience in real time, just like the eyes of people located in the landscape. The slippery surfaces of the ceramic plates seen through the video cameras, showing strange contrasts such as excavated and restored artifacts sink deep in the ocean.

 

소쇄원은 조선중기 시대에 지어진 아름다운 전통정원이다. 계곡과 폭포가 있는 풍경속에 놓인 두개의 정자는 동양화의 전통에 따르면 이상화된 세계에 놓인 눈의 역할을 한다. 동양적 이상을 담은 풍경은 내 작품에서 마찬가지로 동양적 아름다움의 상징인 청자기법으로 제작된 도자로 재현되었다. 도자로 만들어진 풍경에 설치된 비디오카메라는 마치 그 풍경속에 위치한 사람들의 시선처럼 그 풍경을 찍어 실시간으로 관객들에게 보여준다. 카메라를 통해 보여지는 도자판들의 미끈거리는 표면은 바다 속 깊은 곳에 가라앉아 있다 발굴돼 복원된 유물과 같은 낯선 대조를 보여준다.
